With this handout, you're ready to go to watch the incredible documentary In Our Own Words, published by the First Nations, Métis & Inuit Education Association of Ontario and available on YouTube. The documentary explores the history and powers of treaties in Canada through Indigenous voices.
My Grade 11 Law class watched this documentary in its entirety for Treaty Week, but it could be used for any law, history, or social sciences class to look at Indigenous rights, colonial history, or Treaties in Canada.
You could use this handout to watch the full 50 minute documentary or you could use it to watch segments as the handout is divided into sections corresponding with the segments of the documentary.
It will download as a .zip file with a PDF as well as an editable Word document (which can also be uploaded into Google Docs).
